In the heart of Tshikapa lives a young girl whose strength far exceeds her age. Sarah Dibamba, only 14 years old, carries responsibilities that many adults would find overwhelming. Yet, she faces each day with courage, resilience, and an unshakable hope for a better future.
Sarah’s journey has been marked by hardship from a young age. She lost her father, Mujani Mabele, during the Kamwina Nsapu conflict a tragedy that left her and her mother, Godé Mbuyi Konja, to navigate life on their own. With no stable source of income and no support system, survival became a daily challenge.
Seeking safety and opportunity, Sarah and her mother moved to Tshikapa. But life did not become easier. While in 8th grade, Sarah became pregnant. At just 13, she gave birth to her son. Now, at 14, she carries the dual roles of child and mother caring for her baby while still needing care and protection herself.
On most days, Sarah stays home washing dishes, tending to her baby, and waiting for her mother to return from searching for small jobs any work that might bring home enough money to buy food for the day.
Despite the difficulty, Sarah refuses to give up. She tries to sell small items (eggs and peanuts) when she can, but the income is barely enough to purchase basic necessities. What she dreams of is not charity but opportunity as a chance to learn a skill she can rely on, something that will allow her to provide for her child and break the cycle of poverty that surrounds her.
Her request is simple, yet profoundly powerful:
“I am looking for help to receive training in a reliable skill, something that can help me build a stable future for myself and my child.”
Sarah’s story is not just one of hardship,it is a story of resilience, dignity, and hope. At an age where she should be learning, playing, and imagining her future, she is instead fighting to survive. But she has not lost sight of what is possible.
At Caring By Giving Foundation, we believe that stories like Sarah’s should be heard and that girls like Sarah deserve a chance. With the right support and training, Sarah can build a future where she is not defined by her circumstances but empowered by her potential.
